Mobile Suit Gundam UC episode 4: At the Bottom of the Gravity Well premiere report!
The cast and Harutoshi Fukui attend opening night at Shinjuku Piccadilly!
Mobile Suit Gundam UC episode 4 'At the Bottom of the Gravity Well' is now in theaters! A premiere was held on November 12th at Shinjuku Piccadillt.
Invited were Koki Uchiyama (voice of Banagher Links), Daisuke Namikawa (voice of Riddhe Marcenas), Ken Narita (voice of Bright Noa), and Mariya Ise (voice of Loni Garvey). Also on hand was writer Harutoshi Fukui.
With Mr. Namikawa taking over as MC, Mr. Uchiyama begins by comparing himself with Banagher. 'I can't really describe circumstances where we changed 'like this', but I feel like Banagher has changed subconsciously due to his experiences, just like I have.'
Ms. Ise, who plays a key role as Loni this episode, tells of her enthusiastic leap into the episode with a new haircut. 'Rather than just thinking about it, I had to get into it! For that key scene, I ended up recording barefoot, with my hair a mess.'
Fukui, joking about Loni, said 'I hope you're only the first of Japan's Zeonists to fall for her as your new idol!' and was rewarded with laughs from the crowd.
Then Namikawa revealed that Bright Noa's casting was kept secret from even the other actors, with a blank space in the early scripts. Narita, who recorded in a separate studio, recalls 'imagining Namika's face while recording scenes with Riddhe'.
When Namikawa asks whether the audience thought the new Bright worked, he recieved a round of applause in response.
Next, Fukui revealed May 2012 as the date for episode 5, and commented on the recently-revealed PS3 game. The cast spoke of the stress involved in recording their lines from episodes 1-3 for the game all in one go, rather than episode by episode like for the anime.
Finally, after they each thanked the fans for attending and made a final comment, the curtain dropped.
Daisuke Namikawa (voice of Riddhe Marcenas)
I'm impressed by the quality of episode 4—it seems like it could be the peak of the series.
During recording I was so focused on my own part that I wasn't paying attention to what was going on around me, but looking at the finished product I'm glad I was able to be a part of it.
I'd like to thank you all for coming to watch. I hope to continue playing Riddhe charmingly.
Ken Narita (voice of Bright Noa)
I'm honored to have been chosen as the replacement for Mr. Suzuoki, who I respected greatly. I hope I can continue to inherit the spirit he put into the role, while putting a bit of myself in the performance as well.
Mariya Ise (voice of Loni Garvey)
It's always been a dream of mine to perform in a Gundam production. Ever since I met the character Loni, I've been trying my hardest to play a Loni Garvey who could fit in Gundam, who could be loved by Zeonists everywhere, who could never be forgotten.
I hope you continue to enjoy Gundam UC!
Koki Uchiyama (voice of Banagher Links)
During recording of the episode I cried, I shouted, I screamed enough to wear me out, but watching the finished episode, all my weariness was blown away.
I can't wait to start on the next episode. I'm glad you all came to the premiere! Thank you.
Harutoshi Fukui (writer)
After seeing episode 4, I'm sure you're all wondering 'How will it end?' We'll have a special announcement about the ending when episode 5 premieres.
